Historically Traditional Telephony equipment came in two primary offerings, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) or a Private Box Exchange (PBX). The VoIP platform is a business telephone system that provides services similar to a standard PBX, but does so over a company's LAN or WAN data network rather than through the circuit-switched networks used by the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). A VoIP system can be hardware based and can be in the Cloud or premise based. A traditional PBX system is typically housed on premise and uses a static telecom carrier circuit route to connect to the PSTN.
